One minute they’re the greatest threat in the Universe, the next minute they vanished out of time and space.

“When I first started with the self portraits, it was definitely out of a sense of needing attention, and I’ve journaled extensively on this, that pesky needing to be self aware thing. I do think, however, the study is not entirely showing the whole picture. I don’t think a lot of the women I have come in contact with over the past few years and have spoken with, myself included base their self worth on appearance. I’ll definitely admit that I’m a vain person, but the self worth goes a little deeper than that.“

I was quoted recently from a lengthy conversation on Facebook, by Ange Ward-Brown (photographer, friend and all around awesome person) whom I admire deeply, and while I am not the prolific blogger she is with this piece, I really like what she has to say.

“Every image he sees, every photograph he takes, becomes in a sense a self-portrait. The portrait is made more meaningful by intimacy – an intimacy shared not only by the photographer with his subject but by the audience.” – Dorothea Lange

I like the idea of self portrait photography. I love the idea of being able to show (whether I have an audience or not) the world the different aspects of myself, my life, my emotions, my ups and downs. I’m drawn to other women who are in this field of photography because of the emotion and stories behind each photograph they have shared.

It’s been quite a week. My good friend Sarah Bloom (and awesome photographer) got her Kickstarter Project funded. It seems as though we’ll be able to attend the show, which has had me happy as hell.  See, the thing is, though I’m not quite sure how exactly or why I got into self portraiture, but I’d like to think she has a lot to do with it.  I am constantly inspired by her creativity and drive to do what she loves.

Just in the past few hours, my new wee cousin, at a whopping 3 pounds 15 ounces was born, both mom and baby doing quite well I am told. Spring break is this week, going to see Gods of Carnage on Sunday, my sister in law’s birthday. All in all, life is pretty dandy from where I sit.

I’d like to be one of those people who turns the camera on themselves for later reference of an internal dialogue, a constant rebuilding of self, as it were. I like the idea of being able to look back a year from now, and see exactly where I was, and what my thoughts were.

Am I narcissistic? Sure, maybe a little.  Do I need to validated? Maybe just a bit.
